From the era of 1931-1947 the corner of Wellington Street and Gordon Street was the Royal City Skating Rink and sometimes called Casey’s (the owner). There was hockey and skating on a natural ice rink on the banks of the Speed River during this time. The arena was used for storage after it closed down and there was a fire in the 60′s and a new mall was created.
